Weight Management

Having achieved a healthy weight, body shape and composition the next question is how do you manage it?

First of all, the major drawback with "dieting" is that people view it as something finite, in other words they will follow a regime to lose the weight but once they have lost the weight they fall straight back to their previous diet to one degree or another.

Remember, a diet is for LIFE, not just for weight loss.

Once you have achieved your new weight you need to adjust your eating and continue to follow a healthy balanced diet other wise you will eventually undo all the hard work you have done. This is why the eurodiet™ programme involves progression through the specific phases leading ultimately to Phase 4 which is all about ensuring you are re-educated into a healthier diet that you can sustain forever.

Nevertheless, there are some universal tips to help maintain your healthy weight.

  • Don't be tempted to allow stocks of unhealthy foods to build up in the house.
  • Stick to the tips about eating out.
  • Maintain and even build up the exercise and physical activity you have been doing.
  • Maintain and build up your interest in food, explore new cuisines, learn new healthy recipes, entertain more with healthy food.
  • Keep the family healthy and don't let them stop eating healthily now that you have lost the weight.

Weight yo-yo

The difficulty or ease of weight management is also dependant on how you lost the weight in the first place.

As mentioned in the slimming page, if you lose weight too rapidly and too extreme then you are likely to lose lean tissue (muscle) and your body will react by reducing your metabolic rate and increasing appetite to restore the lost tissue. This is likely to make it even more difficult to keep the weight off, and can lead to weight yo-yo. As people will lose weight, regain it, then return to the same regime that lost them the weight in the first place, and so the cycle continues.

At eurodiet™ we believe it is important to lose weight in a way that is correct for you, and that rapid periods of weight loss are only used in combination with a slowed period of weight loss and maintenance with monitoring and support given every step of the way. This continual support and gradual progression through the eurodiet™ phases forms the foundation to healthy and sustainable weight loss.
